31 Days of Halloween: Poetry – Darkness

31daysofhalloween

Darkness

Darkness has descended

Eager to swallow the withering landscape whole

It had waited patiently

For months end

Skeletal arms swept in the cool evenings

Gripping the places sunlight couldn’t penetrate

The long nights

Lit by the glow of firefly eyes

Bonfires and hearth smoke

Promised mischief and magic

The veil thins

Magik is ushered in

The darkest of nights

The longest of night

Halloween
